Official Game Name

break

When I introduced the game concept more generally last month, “Community Spirit” was very much a placeholder name until I could come up with something better.

While it matched the game relatively well (a mixture of helping the community with horror elements), I had concerns from a marketing perspective. You need a term or word that has little to no market traction and something that is easily searchable.

Funnily enough the SEO usefulness of a game name isn’t to organically discover it. Instead, it’s more useful as a keyword search, letting someone who might have heard the name of your game via some other channel easily search for it.

So, after spend the past week focussed on coming up with a unique name within the game space, I’ve finally settled on…

CharitySpree

While not quite as clever as “Community Spirit”, it fulfils my marketing criteria while also representing the manic/chaotic part of the game better.

A big thank you to everyone who helped me come up with the new name and logo!

A New Perspective

While I spent most of my time last week on the new name, I did manage to change the camera perspective to top-down rather than almost isometric.

Besides making it easier to draw and animate assets for the game, it’s also a bit easier for players to conceptualize the play space for the level.

What’s Next?

I’ve started converting those design documents I showed last week and getting the systems into the game.

For example, today I’ve started on the mannequin clothing system by building new spine animations for the different types of donation boxes. My hope is I’ll have something to show soon on those new systems by end of this month.

So with that, I sign off and get back work!

Until next time,

Tom
